Update from Your General ManagerLumberjack Days
We made it through another Lumberjack Days Weekend without any significant stories to report. All of our available slips were utilized and we earned some good overnight dockage revenue. The only incident worthy of reporting from this year was the two boats I found tied to the Gas Dock on Saturday morning. I arrived at 7:30 a.m. and decided not to wake them. I figured I would approach them about paying the overnight fee once I saw them up and about. This happened at around 8:30 a.m. When I approached them about the $35 fee for each boat they became belligerent and told me the price was outrageous, after all, one of the boats had broken down and had to be towed in, what else were they supposed to do? Also, they only arrived at 5:00 a.m. and should not be charged for a full night. I later found out they arrived at 12:00 a.m. the previous night. They finally paid the fee, one of them throwing the cash at me, and were on their way by 8:45 a.m. The broken down boat mysteriously fixed itself.
Wireless Internet
All has been working pretty well since we changed the networks this spring. I test the networks regularly and the system seems to have finally stabilized. Of course now that I have placed this statement in writing, I am sure to get some calls from folks who have been having trouble.
Haul Out is Coming
Unfortunately, the 2010 boating season must come to an end. As much as we would like it to last forever, we must begin planning for our fall haul out. This year the haul out schedule will last six weeks, beginning with the week of September 20 through 24 and ending with the week of October 25 through 29. Due to our insurance requirements, all boats must be hauled out or removed from the marina harbor by Friday, October 29. The haul out process will be handled just like the spring launch process. Haul out contracts will be numbered in the order in which they are received. The first boaters to return their haul out contracts will have the first priority to choose the week they would like their boat hauled out. When the final weeks of haul out fill up, I will be working with boaters, in contract order, to schedule their boat for haul out in the next available week. Boaters who do not turn in a haul out contract will be hauled out in the earlier weeks, so make sure to turn in your contract. We will schedule eight boats each day and forty boats each week. I will personally call each boater the week prior to their scheduled week to set up the actual day and time their boat will be hauled out.
Please read the following information carefully:
Join us for a continental breakfast starting at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2010. This will be your first chance to return your haul out contracts. No haul out contracts will be accepted prior to this date. Contracts will be numbered in the order in which we receive them. Anyone attending this event, which will last from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., will have priority over those contracts received via mail or via fax. Contracts that are mailed or faxed will be placed in the order in which they are received after the event on August 29, 2009 has concluded. Just like we did at the spring launch event, we will conduct prize drawings throughout the morning.
Please return your winterization request forms as quickly as you can. (Haul Out contracts and winterization request forms will arrive by mail the week of August 9, 2010). This will enable Tim Hanna to create your work order for haul out and winterization. Save yourself money and save us time by draining your fresh water tanks and completing a final pump out prior to haul out. (If you took advantage of our portable pump out service, your final pump out will be taken care of for you at no additional charge). We will apply a sticker to all boats to indicate the final pump out has been done. Remember that whatever items you choose to have us winterize for you this fall must also be summerized by us next spring. The charges for summerization will be included on your spring launch work order next spring.
Just like spring launch, all accounts must be cleared prior to haul out. This includes any outstanding assessments, work orders, electrical charges and the actual haul out and winterization work order. I will be following up with each boater when I call to schedule their haul out day and time.
Shrink-wrapping will be made available to each boater by our two preferred vendors, JL Boat Works and The Boat Doctor. These two companies have been chosen because they each offer exemplary service, have competitive pricing and have proven that they will stand behind their work. Please return your shrink wrap contract, which will be included in the same mailing mentioned above, directly to the vendor of your choice. Each vendor will be given a week-by-week haul out schedule so your boats can be wrapped as quickly as they are hauled out. Both companies promise boats will be wrapped within 72 hours from haul out as long as the weather cooperates.
Feel free to call me or stop me on the docks if you have any questions regarding the haul out process.
My phone number is 651-439-2118, extension # 17.
Thank You
As always, I want to thank my staff for the wonderful job they do. You guys continually make me look good and I want you all to know how much I appreciate you. I also want to thank the 2010 Board of Directors and the sub-committees for all of their hard work and support. None of this would be possible without you. Finally, I want to thank our boaters, because without you we would not be here at all. Thank you for the opportunity to be your General Manager. I love my job.
